Had the opportunity to dive with Jim today and like, Toby and Charley, Jim was able to find critters like sharks, eels and frog fishes. And as usual, Captain Valerie was fabulous! And I can't think of a better way than to celebrate with the the group that has been with me for all those dives (also the #1 crew in Hawaii), Captain Valerie, Toby and Charley. As usual, 2 amazing dives with lots of critters. I don't know how he does it but Toby seems to find them not matter where they hide. And you should see the amazing pictures Charley has been taking underwater. Magazine quality photos. Wow! Talk about wow, Captain Valerie was great as usual. Making sure all were taken care of. This was my first dive in 4 years, and I really appreciated Jim's easy-going nature, making it a comfortable experience. The equipment was first rate, just like everything else on this dive. Toby found some sharks and then we came right back up to a more normal level of around 60 feet. Then Captain Valerie took us to her secrete spot and Toby found frog fish, cleaner fish, leave scorpion, and turtles. Whew, a lot of creatures as usual. Captain Charley knew the visability would be less than normal but somehow found the best spots. The visability was between 15 - 40 feet, but both Toby and Jim still found creatures of the deep. Toby is a superior dive guide, finding all the special little things that most of us miss. The trip to the Golden Arches was the highlight. I did a referral, having done the paperwork and pool work in Vancouver, WA. My Son, Ross did the whole thing in three days, with the help of Jim. After the first two days, Ross was beginning to drag due to the workout involved, but as soon as we got in the water at Molokini and could easily see 150 feet, all the tiredness vanished. Capt. Charley Neal was extremely knowledgeable about his dive sites and very concerned that his divers got maximum "wow" from both locations. He also spoils his divers - aside from the abundance of munchies, he has a hot onboard shower (and full line of grooming products!). He also owns several properties near Kihei, so a lot of his divers also stay at one of his rental places. The fact that all the divers on board (except us two newbies) were not just multi-dive "package" divers but repeat divers, who both dive and stay with Charley year after year, says a lot for this operation. The gear is top of the line and new, and we divers didn't have to do anything but sit down and step into our BCDs, and sit down and step out. I am so NOT used to being spoiled like this, after 17 years' diving in FL and the Caribbean. This dive operation is uniformly excellent, and a lot of fun. Aaron Chaffee USA On 10/25/07 my family and I had our final dive experience with Scuba Shack at the end of our two weeks in paradise. We celebrated my father-in-law’s birthday in between dives. And what a glorious day for an on-deck and under the sea celebration! With ever-delightful Charley as our dive master we experienced AWESOME Five Caves and Makena Landing dives. Sometimes as a diver you may be pleasantly overwhelmed by your surroundings and oblivious to creatures just waiting to be noticed. But Charley doesn’t miss a thing! And with his trusty light and communication with his divers he always brought our attention to underwater haunts and coves with various eels, sharks (the babies, oh so cute!), turtles, and let’s not forget those tiny nestled harlequin shrimp. And then, you may be simply diving along and out of sheer luck come along a flying gunard fully extending it's incredibly beautiful wings as it glided across the ocean's floor , and Charley, of course, conveys his underwater enthusiasm to you, letting you know what a RARE find that is. In between these two exceptional dives, we had a birthday party with yummy cakes and a delightful shampoo treatment for the birthday boy from Captain Valerie. Lovely and gracious and so very competent and skillful in her role as Captain, and still with time for taking pictures and making Bobby feel very special on his birthday. And Charley, thank you beyond words for the exceptional eight dives for which you were our dive master. As a hands-on owner of World Famous Scuba Shack you show in your professionalism, enthusiasm, attention to detail, and friendship how world-class you are. We dove the back wall of Molokini with amazing Charley as our dive master. We also met Kristin for the first time, her beautiful cheerful sassy self greeting us at the store and also joining us for our first dive of the day. And WOW, what a dive it was! And the sharks we saw…. plenty of reef sharks, either right out in the open or tucked in their cavernous hiding spots. But then, when you thought it couldn’t get any better… BAM!!! Along came a huge Galapagos Shark! We all stayed and observed, it was so amazing to see, circling over a cleaning station on the back wall of Molokini. We were all so captivated, who would have expected an underwater land shark-attack from Charley… poor Kristin, but it was quite funny! The experience has also contributed to new scuba master vocabulary… we now all know how to say “big @#$% shark”! For myself and my family this was our first time seeing not just one, but five spotted eagle rays on our drift dive at Red Hill! My family and I have been diving with Charley and his awesome crew for the past four years. We are return travelers to Maui and repeat customers which means we have experienced other dive operations on Maui. And now, there’s no other choice for us but Scuba Shack! When you experience the best staff, boat, and all-around dive operation, the experience has you hooked! Not to mention the awesome top of the line scuba equipment, always updated and equipped with the latest technology. On 10/16 we had our first dive experience with Captain Charley as our dive master, along with Toby and goddess of the seas, Captain Valerie. We dove the inside wall of Molokini, enjoying an enjoyable array of eels (on this dive we saw zebra and bearded eels), turtles, and reef sharks. We were certified four years ago with one of Charley's excellent instructors, Gary Lite (now moved on, but a patient and skilled instructor), and this was our second Molokini dive with Charley and his crew. It was all good! We had green sea turtles and white tipped sharks on parade for our group as well. As for the equipment, it was the best. Captain Valerie did a great job driving the boat, and getting all the gear together and washing gear when everyone was back on board. We had 3 snorkelers and 10 divers. Charlie and Jay did a great job with the divers as well. The underwater paradise is true. Beautiful fish, turtles along with the sharks coral and reefs was a divers dream. All the divers were in the water blowing bubbles while the snorkelers were getting in, my son was the 1st to get in of the snorkel guys. He was a little timid at first when he saw a shark he wanted to get back on the boat but Capt.Valerie assured him it was ok. Everyone had a great time. A big "thank you" goes out to Charlie for washing all the girls hair. We have the photos to show proof. We will use the Scuba Shack again. Thank you for making this a trip of a lifetime for us. I scheduled two days of diving with Scuba Shack, and they were forced to cancel my first day because the person upgrading their jet engines did not show up to finish the job. I was robbed of the chance of diving two days with you guys, and I had to settle for just one unforgettable experience! Despite my disappointment, I decided to dive with another company which your staff had already arranged for me to go with (if I chose to) on very short notice. That company could not compare! They used shoddy equipment, and they greatly under-weighted me on my first dive which made me use up my air quickly as I fought to stay down, and they charged me $40 more to go diving than Scuba Shack did. (After I told Scuba Shack about my experience, they told me they would not recommend that other company anymore). Scuba Shack by comparison, not only had brand new weight integrated gear, dive computers and air sources on all the BC's, they have a fantastic crew. I dove with Toby, and he gave me the freedom to do what I wanted; yet he was always pointing out things I had missed. I would think after so many dives, the crew would be tired of doing the same thing day after day, but they kept it fresh and enjoyable and they took care of absolutely everything. Their newly upgraded What's the Scoop was the fastest dive vessel I've ever seen floating on the water. Book with them, and you will be in for a treat. I've seen sharks, rays, turtles (even a hawksbill), octupi, a multitude of eels (including one having its teeth cleaned by a cleaner shrimp), and the rare but ever popular flying gunard. The staff was tremendous. They see well over three thousand divers a year, but are able to make each one feel special. I don't think anyone enjoys his or her job as much as Charley. Whether he's working the store, captaining the boat, or leading a dive, he has fun. And he makes sure his customers have fun as well. Toby is a master at finding the hard to find species. I mean who else could find five frogfish in one day? Captain Val has a heart of gold and a smile that brightens even the cloudiest of days. Mahalo nui to all of you. The boat dive to Molokini and Turtle Town were the final dive for my PADI certification with Paul. His professionalism and easy going manner made the certification process fun. Paul pointed out so many things I would have missed, especially the frog fish. What made it even better was that my wife and 8 year old son could come along and snorkle while I dove. Capt. Valerie took time to make them comfortable with their equipment and the open water. The boat was fantastic, fast and fun. There is always something new to see. Jay lead the way on two great dives today, the first being TAKO FLATS at Molokini, and the second at RED HILL. Red Hill was a drift dive and it is amazing how the Captian (Valerie) seems to know where we would end up at the end of the drift dive, waiting to take our fins and help us back on board. Once again ,first class service from getting your equipment ready to strapping you in, along with washing off your gear and wetsuits, not just their gear, at the end of a day of diving. And if you want to shampoo your hair, the crew will do it for you! Even my mother never did that! Will be back to do more diving with Scuba Shack and the crew. I've tried other outfits on the island, but Scuba Shack tops them all. We saw reef sharks, tons of turtles, eels, and tropical fish galore. If I had one constructive criticism, it would be this: don't let Charley dance! Some sharks were riding the same drift as us. There were White Tip Reef, and Gray Reef Sharks. The crew make diving such a pleasure; from having all the gear ready to go, strapping you in, getting your gear off, and even rinsing it off for you! The only thing you have to do is step off the boat,follow your guide and take a look at all the amazing things they point out along the dive. Captain Valerie makes sure that your safety is number one while under her supervision. Even though you may have your own gear, it is checked to ensure it does work before the Captain lets you go on the dive. Yesterday was also a great day of diving as well, with Charley, who continues to come up with different things to see. Any dive you can make with Charley (the owner of Scuba Shack) is going to be a good dive! Once again, our warmest thanks and highest praise goes out to the captain and crew of Scuba Shack! Valerie, and Toby, you guys Rock! The two tank dive at Molokini and the turtle sanctuary were awesome. The fish were plentiful and not shy at all. I was glad I was able to buy a portable underwater camera on the boat, as I was able to snap shots of the turtles and a few sharks to take home and show friends. Being my first trip to Hawaii I had no idea what to expect. From first contact, we were greeted with an atmosphere of “we are here to make you happy!” Not being a morning person I must say, coffee, snacks and a lot of laughter started the trip off without a hitch. Captain Valerie had us parked and in the water before anyone else! She knows her stuff; our safety was never a question. It was the first time I tried my hand at underwater photography. We were sent with Toby. He was awesome! He took the time to let me shoot most of the creatures he found and can he find them! His guide was great, always checking on everyone’s air supply and well-being. I felt so safe. Returning after a wonderful trip, we stopped by the dive shop to get our log books stamped, this is where we encountered Charley “scuba shacks owner” A character whom will leave a lifetime impression on you. Charming, pleasing, a jokester and just a down to earth person. It was my birthday, he recommended a restaurant and allowed us to say he sent us. It was the best service and meal I have ever encountered! First Class all the way, just as the Scuba Shack!!! Never have I been on a boat where they put the weights in my BC and hooked up tanks & regs (even changed them for 2nd dive). Gave me a chance to relax!!
